"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world."

While research identifies many interpretations around what is considered to be the purpose of education, the most authentic answer to this question may be best described as elusive, suggesting that the educational purpose varies depending upon a number of factors. For this reason, a successful teacher must observe, reflect, and respond accordingly to school environments and individuals within it.
I believe my most important role as a teacher is to advocate for young people and instill within my students a desire to learn. Incorporating a growth mindset approach into the classroom culture nurtures enthusiasm and engagement within students. Students in my classroom are encouraged to explore what interests them, see the value in challenges, and understand that effort and growth are connected.
It is my role to cherish and facilitate diversity in the classroom. This may be accomplished through differentiated teaching strategies such as supporting each student's learning pace, creating engaging lessons that take different modes of learning into account, utilizing materials that students can personally identify with, and using varied forms of assessment. Above all, it is essential to build positive relationships with students and to cultivate a learning environment where students feel safe, respected, and valued.
